Manufacturing Engineering Equipment Technician

A biotech manufacturing company in Sunnyvale, CA is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Equipment Technician to provide automation equipment to a high-volume molecular diagnostics consumables operation. The successful candidate will understand the build, power-up, test and debug of complex custom automation equipment that is used for the production of diagnostic disposables. The position will be responsible for taking ownership of the tool through various phases and provide support during validation and after launch.

Responsibilities

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including procedures, SOPs, BOMs, and other relevant documents
  • Work closely with Engineering team to ensure proper machine functionality
  • Ensure Quality standards are maintained in a highly regulated, process driven environment
  • Provide timely and detailed status updates
  • Create work instructions, assembly procedures, training materials and other relevant technical documents
  • Provide training to the Mfg. & Sustaining staff as needed
  • Create build books and ensure that the “as built” is fully and accurately documented
  • Create a “pre hand-off” check list to confirm that all deliverables are complete and follow up on outstanding items
  • Act as a liaison with other stakeholders during the validation activities
  • Support post-launch activities
  • Actively participate in the post mortem and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Create/Review Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Minor Design/Procurement of fixtures and alignment tooling using SolidWorks
  • Ensure work is completed in a timely fashion so as to ensure project timelines are met
  • Perform troubleshooting on automation equipment
  • Assist with creation/execution of qualification protocols
  • Perform buy-off of outsourced tools and assemblies
  • Provide support to Production
  • Design, source, and implement machine component changes and additions as required

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience

4+ years of direct related experience

Strong mechanical and organization skills

Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings and electrical schematics/wiring diagrams

Experience with automation machine assembly

General machine shop skills including lathe, mill, drill press

Competence with a wide variety of tools and measuring instruments

Strong MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Project) skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitude

Must be a creative thinker, results oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy

Must have ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 40-lbs

Familiarity with SolidWorks

PLC controls system knowledge

Experience in a regulated, medical device environment
