Job Description

An optical manufacturer is seeking a RF Engineer to join their team!

As an RF Engineering Tech, you'll be focusing on new product introduction and join our Design team in our Fremont facility, specializing in Acousto-Optics (AO) for Aerospace & Defense, Industrial and Life Sciences.

You will report to the Design Engineering Manager, where you will work in our world-leading photonics lab to design & development projects that focus on next-generation acousto-optic deflectors, modulators and tunable filters for a diverse range of applications including semiconductor laser manufacturing, sensing in Aerospace & Defense and microscopy in medical imaging.  You will have the opportunity to shape the future of our business by working with emerging companies in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific in order to fuel growth and turn new ideas into innovative product lines.

Your main responsibility will be to build, qualify and support the transition of New Products into Assembly. This position involves developing and implementing improvements for manufacturability, throughput, and yield.  Additionally, you will be responsible for creating and releasing supporting documentation such as work travelers, top levels, and work instructions. You will work within a multidisciplinary team including Electronic, Optical, and Mechanical Engineers to develop cutting-edge new products that will deliver profitable revenue growth.

Key Activities

  • Qualify and transition new products to Production.
  • Build, test, and develop NPI prototypes and pilot runs with limited documentation and instructions.
  • Create, release, and maintain supporting product documentation and procedures including BOM’s, work travelers, work instructions and top level prints.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering on jigs and fixtures to improve quality and manufacturability.
  • Manage product material with relation to qualifying new materials, improved materials, and or expediting materials.
  • Provide technical support and training to others.

Job Requirements

Skills & Experience


  • Background and applicable work experience of 5-8 years transitioning NPI products into Production.
  • RF and/or electronic back-ground (Impedance transformation circuits a plus)
  • Opto-Mechanical or Mechanical assembly experience
  • Ability to work under heavy workloads and time pressures as well as adjust to multiple demands with shifting work priorities.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication.
  • Must be able to use microscopes, tweezers, solder, and handle small parts with good dexterity.
  • Must be familiar with and able to operate electronic and optical equipment, tools, and software to test products to specifications.


  • AS degree in Electronics, BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, and or Industrial Technology a plus.
  • Experience with 2D CAD software, 3D modelling and layout skills
  • Laser test bench experience
  • Exposure to PLM and/or CRM systems in manufacturing environment
